Belagavi Police Implements Massive Security Operation for Holi Festival

The Belagavi City police orchestrated an elaborate security framework to guarantee peaceful and orderly celebrations of the vibrant Holi festival across the city on Tuesday. In a comprehensive effort, authorities deployed a substantial force of over 1,000 police personnel and established strategic checkpoints at 19 key locations throughout the city and its surrounding taluk.

Comprehensive Security Arrangements Across 180 Celebration Sites

According to City Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase, the festival of colors was celebrated at more than 180 designated locations. Special security protocols were meticulously implemented at crowded public spaces, major traffic junctions, bustling markets, and other sensitive areas to proactively prevent any disturbances to public law and order.

The security apparatus received significant reinforcement from multiple agencies:

  • Approximately 250 Home Guards were mobilized to assist the regular police force throughout the festival period.
  • Seven specialized teams from the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) were stationed as a precautionary measure.
  • Personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were also deployed to enhance emergency preparedness.

Advanced Surveillance and Monitoring Systems Activated

To maintain constant vigilance, the police leveraged modern technology extensively. A network of nearly 500 CCTV cameras installed across Belagavi monitored movements in all public areas. Furthermore, on-duty police personnel were equipped with body-worn cameras to document interactions and ensure transparency.

In a notable technological upgrade, aerial surveillance was conducted at eight critical locations using drones. This initiative provided law enforcement with a comprehensive overview of large gatherings, enabling quicker response to any potential incidents.

Strict Enforcement Measures and Public Appeals

Police authorities announced strict vehicle checks across the city to deter unlawful activities. They also committed to enforcing permissible noise limits for sound systems used during celebrations. With school and college examinations currently in session, Commissioner Borase made a heartfelt appeal to citizens.

He urged the public to maintain peace and quiet around examination centers and to celebrate the festival with responsibility and consideration for students. The commissioner also advised citizens to refrain from spreading unverified rumors and to immediately report any suspicious activities to the police.

Temporary Liquor Sale Ban to Ensure Order

In a decisive move to preserve public order, Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase ordered a temporary ban on the sale and transportation of liquor within the Belagavi City Police Commissionerate limits. The prohibition was enforced under Section 21(1) of the Karnataka Excise Act, 1965, and Section 31 of the Karnataka Police Act, 1963.

The ban mandated the closure of:

  1. All liquor outlets and wine shops.
  2. Bar sections in restaurants and clubs.
  3. Karnataka State Beverages Corporation Limited (KSBCL) depots.

This closure was effective from 2:00 PM on Monday until 11:59 PM on Tuesday, specifically to ensure that Holi celebrations remained safe and free from alcohol-related disturbances. The comprehensive security plan underscored the administration's commitment to a festive yet secure environment for all residents.
