Beltarodi Residents Oppose Liquor Unit in Nagpur

Nagpur: Residents of Beltarodi have strongly opposed a proposed country liquor manufacturing unit reportedly planned in their locality. They recently approached the office of the guardian minister and Kamptee MLA Chandrashekhar Bawankule and other officials to register their concerns.

Memorandum Submitted to Officials

In a memorandum submitted at Bawankule's office, residents claimed that information received from local sources regarding the project and have sought complete details and official documents. They said the community is united against any such establishment in a predominantly residential area.

Public Safety Concerns

As per residents, the locality is home to hundreds of families, including young children, women and senior citizens. They argued that setting up a country liquor unit in proximity to residential societies would adversely affect the character of the neighbourhood and compromise public safety.

They claimed that the presence of a liquor facility could attract antisocial elements and potentially encourage illegal activities in the vicinity. Residents also pointed out that several educational and religious institutions are located near the proposed site. They urged Bawankule to ensure that any licence or approval granted to the project is cancelled in the larger public interest.

Residents' Actions

Resident Priya Manpiya told TOI that they learnt about the proposed liquor unit after seeing construction activity for an establishment in their area. "Officials from the minister's office told us to approach the collector. We would meet the collector on Monday and urge him to take immediate action," she said.

The memorandum further highlighted that residents fear that the facility could lead to altercations and other nuisance, particularly during evening and night hours. They also warned that increased vehicular movement associated with the unit could worsen traffic congestion on internal roads and create inconvenience for pedestrians and residents.

Memorandums were also submitted at Beltarodi police station and Besa-Pipla Nagar Panchyat office.
