In a crackdown on dangerous driving, Bengaluru police have arrested a 28-year-old auto rickshaw driver for performing perilous wheelie stunts with his three-wheeler, filming the act, and sharing it on social media platforms.
Stunt Video Goes Viral, Leads to Arrest
The accused has been identified as Uday Vikram A, a resident of Plague Maramma Street in KR Puram. According to police officials from the KR Puram traffic station, Vikram orchestrated the recording of his stunts with the help of friends last month. After he uploaded the video, it quickly gained traction online. Alert netizens who came across the viral clip tagged the police department, bringing the reckless act to official attention.
Legal Action and Vehicle Seizure
Acting on the information, the police registered a case against Vikram on Monday. He has been booked under section 281 (Rash or negligent driving/riding on a public way) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Additionally, charges have been pressed under sections 184 (Dangerous Driving) and 189 (Racing/Speed Trials) of the Indian Motor Vehicle Act.
An investigating officer stated that acting suo-motu (on its own motion), the department not only registered the case but also seized the three-wheeler and all its relevant documents. The officer confirmed that the police will formally write to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) recommending the suspension of Vikram's driving licence as well as the vehicle's registration certificate.
Auto Impounded, Court Order Awaited
The seized auto rickshaw is currently parked within the premises of the KR Puram traffic police station. Authorities have clarified that the vehicle will only be released after Vikram obtains a specific order from the court directing the police to do so. This action underscores the police's strict stance against traffic violations and stunts that endanger public safety on Bengaluru's roads.
The case highlights the growing trend of individuals recording and sharing risky stunts for social media clout, and the subsequent legal repercussions when such acts violate traffic laws and public safety norms.
