Bengaluru Bodybuilder Killed in Alleged Deliberate Hit-and-Run After Cricket Match Brawl

In a shocking incident that unfolded in Bengaluru's Electronics City area, a 33-year-old bodybuilder lost his life after being allegedly deliberately run over by a car following a violent drunken altercation. The tragic event occurred after participants of a local cricket tournament engaged in heavy drinking, leading to fatal consequences.

Victim Identified as Local Bodybuilder

The deceased has been identified as Prashanth M, a resident of Veerasandra in Bengaluru who was known in his community as a fitness enthusiast and bodybuilder. According to police statements released on Monday, the incident took place on Sunday evening on an open ground behind a mall in the bustling Electronics City area.

How the Drunken Argument Escalated

Investigators revealed that a group of men had gathered in Kammasandra to participate in a cricket tournament. After the match concluded, the participants consumed alcohol together. "In a drunken stupor, Prashanth allegedly approached Roshan, seeking a lighter and abused him, triggering an argument," explained a police officer involved in the case.

The 37-year-old accused, Roshan Hegde, works as a software engineer in the city. What began as a verbal confrontation quickly turned physical, with both men allegedly attacking each other using beer bottles as weapons. During this violent scuffle, Roshan sustained a severe injury that nearly severed his tongue.

The Fatal Vehicle Incident

As tensions reached their peak, Roshan entered his Tata Safari SUV in an attempt to leave the volatile situation. Police reports indicate that Prashanth chased the moving vehicle and clung to its door as it traveled along the Veerasandra–Kammasandra Road.

Investigators allege that Roshan then deliberately accelerated the car, first crashing it into a compound wall and then reversing and ramming it into a tree. Critical evidence came from dashcam footage that clearly showed the intentional nature of the actions.

Dashcam Footage Reveals Intentional Act

Initially, police responded to what appeared to be a routine road accident after a passerby alerted emergency services. The case took a dramatic turn when M Narayana, DCP of Electronics City, noticed the dashcam installed in the vehicle and ordered the footage to be examined.

"The case was initially treated as an accident until we noticed the dashcam on the vehicle and ordered the footage to be examined," Narayana stated. The video evidence revealed that Roshan had suddenly accelerated and deliberately rammed the SUV against a compound wall before reversing and crashing it again against a tree.

In these twin impacts, Prashanth, who was clinging to the vehicle from outside, suffered catastrophic injuries and died at the scene.

Accused Arrested After Medical Treatment

Roshan Hegde was initially rushed to hospital for treatment of his tongue injury, where doctors performed minor surgery. "Doctors informed us that his tongue was almost severed and that he underwent a minor surgery," Narayana told reporters.

After being discharged from the hospital on Monday, Roshan was immediately taken into custody by Hebbagodi police. Following interrogation and review of the dashcam evidence, he was formally arrested on charges of murder.

This tragic incident highlights how alcohol-fueled arguments can escalate into deadly violence, even among educated professionals in India's technology capital. The Bengaluru police have emphasized the importance of the dashcam footage in establishing the intentional nature of the crime, which might otherwise have been recorded as a tragic accident.
