Bengaluru Boy Attacked by Neighbour's Dog While Cycling, Police Case Filed

In a distressing incident in Bengaluru, an 11-year-old boy was attacked by a neighbour's pet dog while he was cycling in the Rajajinagar area. The attack occurred between 8:00 AM and 8:30 AM on March 21, 2024, leading to a formal police complaint being lodged by the boy's mother, a 41-year-old advocate, on March 26.

Details of the Dog Attack Incident

According to the complaint filed with the Subramanyanagar police station, the boy was cycling when a Belgian Shepherd, being taken for a walk by its owner identified as Madhu alias Madhusudhan, suddenly attacked him. The dog bit the boy's left leg, causing him to fall from his bicycle. Shockingly, the dog owner allegedly left the spot with his pet without offering any assistance to the injured child, exacerbating the situation.

Legal Action and Police Response

A senior police officer confirmed that a case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 125(a), which pertains to acts endangering the life or personal safety of others. This section addresses negligence that puts others at risk, making it applicable in this dog attack scenario.

The officer explained that since the charges are bailable under this provision, the accused cannot be arrested immediately. Instead, a notice will be issued to the dog owner, Madhu alias Madhusudhan, requiring him to appear before the authorities. This legal process ensures due procedure while holding the owner accountable for the incident.

Current Status and Recovery

The young victim is currently recovering from the injuries sustained during the attack. Police have assured that they are monitoring the situation closely and will follow up on the case as per legal protocols. The incident has raised concerns about pet safety and owner responsibility in residential neighbourhoods like Rajajinagar.

This case highlights the importance of proper pet management and adherence to safety guidelines to prevent such unfortunate events. Authorities urge pet owners to ensure their animals are under control in public spaces to avoid endangering others.
