Bengaluru Police Constable Arrested for Alleged Sexual Harassment of Minor Boy

In a shocking incident that has raised serious concerns about police conduct, a constable from Bengaluru has been arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a boy at Freedom Park. The accused, identified as Yamuna Naik, a 30-year-old constable attached to the RT Nagar police station, was taken into custody on Friday evening following a complaint filed by the victim's mother.

Details of the Alleged Incident

According to police officials, Yamuna Naik was deputed at Freedom Park on Friday when the incident occurred. The victim, a pre-university college student, was present at the same location. "Naik reportedly touched the victim inappropriately. The boy informed his mother about it. Later, she approached the Upparpet police and filed a complaint," stated a police officer familiar with the case.

The prompt action by the boy's mother led to Naik's arrest, and he has since been remanded in judicial custody at the Bengaluru central prison. Authorities have registered the case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, highlighting the serious nature of the allegations against a law enforcement officer.

Judicial Proceedings and Legal Action

Yamuna Naik's arrest marks a significant development in what many are calling a disturbing breach of trust by a public servant. The judicial custody order ensures he remains detained while investigations proceed. This case has drawn attention to the mechanisms in place for handling such sensitive allegations against police personnel.

Police officials have emphasized their commitment to following due process, regardless of the accused's position within the force. "No one is above the law, and we are treating this case with the utmost seriousness," commented a senior officer involved in the investigation.

Additional Case of Sexual Harassment in Bengaluru

In a separate but related development, the Madiwala police have arrested four men for allegedly sexually harassing a woman and assaulting her fiancé. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohith, Vijaykumar, Tejaswi, and David, all aged between 25 and 35 years.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on January 19 when the four men were partying at a house in Maruti Nagar. "Around 1 am, they stepped out to buy cigarettes. While returning, they made a vulgar comment at the woman. When her fiancé questioned them about their behaviour, they assaulted him and misbehaved with the woman," explained an officer.

All four accused have been remanded in judicial custody, underscoring the police's ongoing efforts to address sexual harassment cases in the city. These back-to-back incidents highlight the persistent challenges in combating such crimes and the importance of swift legal action.

Community Response and Broader Implications

The arrest of a police constable in a sexual harassment case has sparked discussions about accountability within law enforcement agencies. Community leaders and activists are calling for stricter oversight and more robust mechanisms to prevent such incidents.

Experts point out that cases involving minors require particularly sensitive handling, and the application of the POCSO Act in this instance demonstrates the legal framework's capacity to address serious offenses. However, there are growing calls for enhanced training and awareness programs for police personnel to prevent future occurrences.

As investigations continue, authorities are urging the public to report any similar incidents promptly. The Bengaluru police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice for all victims, regardless of the perpetrator's identity or position.
