Bengaluru Defence Lab Faces Bomb Threat, Evacuated in Security Scare
In a serious security incident, the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), a key laboratory under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) located within the Byappanahalli police limits in Bengaluru, received multiple emails threatening a bomb attack on Monday. Police officials confirmed that the threatening communications prompted immediate action to ensure safety.
Evacuation and Intensive Search Operation
Following the receipt of the threatening emails, authorities swiftly evacuated the entire premises of GTRE as a precautionary measure. A comprehensive search operation was launched, involving local police forces, the bomb disposal squad, and fire services personnel. The teams meticulously scanned the area for any suspicious devices or materials, but no explosives were found. After thorough verification, the threat was officially declared a hoax by the investigating agencies.
Details of the Threatening Email
The threatening email, which was written in the Tamil language, contained alarming claims that Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) had been planted on the GTRE premises and were set to detonate around 1:30 PM. Additionally, the message included a warning about a plot to kidnap the grandson of a prominent Tamil Nadu politician, escalating concerns over the motive behind the threat.
Officials revealed that the email was reportedly sent from an ID identified as "Kiruthiha.udhayanidhi@hotmail". The message specifically threatened to abduct Inbanidhi, the grandson of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, adding a political dimension to the security scare.
Investigation and Enhanced Security Measures
In response to this incident, the Central Crime Branch has intensified its probe to trace the origin and sender of the threatening emails. Authorities are leveraging digital forensics and cyber investigation techniques to identify the perpetrators behind this hoax, which has caused significant disruption and alarm.
