Bengaluru Domestic Help Arrested for Stealing Rs 1 Crore Valuables from US Employer
In a shocking incident in Bengaluru, a 29-year-old domestic help has been arrested for allegedly stealing gold and diamond ornaments, along with cash, collectively valued at approximately Rs 1 crore from his employer's residence in JB Nagar. The accused, identified as Chandan Srikant Raul, a resident of Sudhamanagar and originally from West Bengal, targeted the home of his American employers, Tommo Kankainen and Mariela Moreno, who are citizens from Texas and currently live in Kodihalli.
Details of the Theft and Swift Police Action
The theft occurred on January 21, when Kankainen had flown to the United States, and his wife Mariela, a software professional, had left for work. Taking advantage of their absence, Chandan allegedly opened a safe in the house and fled with the valuables. The stolen items included gold and diamond ornaments weighing 176 grams, as well as US dollars that he later converted into Rs 39,000 in cash with the assistance of a local agent.
Upon returning home later that day, Mariela discovered the theft and immediately lodged a complaint at the JB Nagar police station at 4 pm. She suspected Chandan, who had been employed at the residence for the past six months. Acting swiftly on the complaint, a police team traced Chandan to his house in Sudhamanagar and arrested him by 8 pm the same day.
Recovery of Stolen Property and Investigation
An officer involved in the case stated, "He was caught with the stolen property," confirming that all the stolen items, including the gold and diamond ornaments and the converted cash, have been recovered and seized. The police investigation revealed that Chandan had meticulously planned the theft, exploiting the temporary absence of his employers to execute the crime.
This incident highlights concerns about security and trust in domestic help arrangements, especially in urban areas like Bengaluru. The JB Nagar police have been commended for their prompt response, which led to the quick arrest and recovery of the valuables. Authorities are continuing their investigation to ensure all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined.
