Bengaluru Engineer Loses Rs 48 Lakh to Fake Ayurvedic Healer
Bengaluru: Fake Ayurvedic healer cheats engineer of Rs 48 lakh

In a shocking case of medical fraud, the Jnanabharathi police in Bengaluru have arrested a self-proclaimed Ayurvedic healer for allegedly cheating a young engineer of a staggering Rs 48 lakh. The accused, identified as Vijay Guruji from Maharashtra, promised to cure the victim's sexual health problems but instead sold him costly and harmful products that led to severe kidney-related complications.

The Deceptive Roadside Camp

The incident came to light after the 29-year-old engineer, a resident of Jnanabharathi and a native of Shivamogga, filed a formal complaint on November 22. According to the complaint, the victim first encountered the fraudulent operation on May 3, 2025, during a visit to a hospital. In the Ullal area, he noticed an Ayurvedic camp set up on the roadside, which prominently advertised a "quick solution for sexual problems." Intrigued by the promise of a fast remedy, he entered the tent.

Inside, he was assured that Vijay Guruji could provide an effective treatment for his condition. The so-called healer then prescribed a series of "rare medicines" and instructed the engineer to purchase them exclusively from a specific outlet: the Vijayalaxmi Ayurvedic shop in Yeshwantpur. This restriction was a key part of the scam, ensuring all money flowed through their controlled channel.

Financial Ruin and Health Crisis

Trusting the healer's claims, the victim went to great lengths to arrange the enormous sums of money demanded. He borrowed from his wife and parents and even took out loans to buy the prescribed products, ultimately spending Rs 48 lakh. However, instead of improving, his health began to deteriorate significantly after using the medicines.

The situation turned critical when the engineer developed serious kidney-related issues, directly linked to the harmful products he had consumed. What was promised as a cure had pushed him into a deeper health and financial abyss.

Police Action and Ongoing Investigation

A senior police officer confirmed the arrest of Vijay Guruji in connection with the case. However, the investigation is far from over. The officer stated that more details about the accused would be shared only after the apprehension of the other key suspect: the owner of the Vijayalaxmi Ayurvedic shop. The police are also focused on recovering the cheated money.

This case highlights the dangers of falling prey to unverified medical practitioners and roadside clinics making grand promises. Authorities urge the public to exercise extreme caution and seek treatment only from licensed and reputable healthcare providers.
