Bengaluru Gang Rape Case Takes Dramatic Turn with Extortion Allegations

A 19-year-old college student in Bengaluru has filed a police complaint alleging that she was gang-raped by her boyfriend and a 34-year-old used-car dealer from Malleswaram. The incident reportedly occurred during a party at a villa in Jakkur near Yelahanka on the night of February 14. According to the student's statement, she was drugged and assaulted, leading to a traumatic ordeal that has now sparked a complex legal battle.

Details of the Alleged Assault

In her complaint registered on Sunday, the student described how the used-car dealer and her boyfriend forced her to swallow a pill, causing her to slip into a semi-conscious state. She stated, "The duo raped me in the villa," and added that the car dealer threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the incident. Following the assault, she underwent a medical examination on February 17 and later confided in her elder brother, who encouraged her to file a police report.

Extortion Complaint Adds Complexity

The case took a dramatic twist when it emerged that the used-car dealer had filed an extortion complaint against the woman a day before her rape allegation was registered. In his complaint filed on Saturday, the dealer accused the student, along with a reporter from a vernacular TV channel and others, of attempting to extort Rs 10-15 lakh from him. He claimed they threatened to air incriminating evidence of him sexually assaulting the woman through a television programme.

The dealer provided a contrasting account of the events, stating that he rents out the villa in Jakkur for parties and was present there past midnight on February 14. He alleged that the student, whom he had met previously at another party, approached him and shared personal struggles, including her father's cancer diagnosis and her parents' divorce. He further claimed she behaved indecently and made objectionable comments.

Police Investigation Underway

A senior IPS officer confirmed that both complaints are being thoroughly investigated. The police are actively searching for the used-car dealer and the complainant's boyfriend, with plans to arrest them on charges of gang rape. Additionally, authorities are collecting circumstantial evidence and documents related to the extortion claim to determine the truth behind the conflicting allegations.

The officer emphasized, "We are looking for the businessman and his friend. We will arrest them on charges of gang rape. Also, we are collecting details of circumstantial evidence and other documents in connection with the extortion claim." This dual investigation highlights the complexities of the case, as police work to unravel the facts amid serious accusations from both sides.
