Dramatic Highway Inferno Erupts After Car-Truck Collision Near Bengaluru
A terrifying collision between a passenger car and a massive container truck on a national highway near Hoskote, Bengaluru, erupted into a dramatic blaze in the early hours of Sunday, completely gutting both vehicles and leaving two individuals with injuries. The intense fire, which broke out almost instantly after the impact, created chaotic scenes and led to a significant traffic disruption lasting several hours.
Early Morning Crash Ignites Instant Fireball
The incident unfolded around 2 a.m. near Halasahalli village in Hoskote taluk of Bengaluru Rural district. According to police reports, a Maruti Swift Dzire car, which was heading towards Kolar, rammed into a container truck that was in the process of making a U-turn on the highway. Preliminary investigations indicate the car was traveling at excessive speed, and the driver lost control, striking the truck near its fuel tank.
The impact was so forceful that both vehicles caught fire almost immediately, becoming fully engulfed in flames within moments. Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos as the vehicles burned intensely, with the container truck being completely charred. The goods it was transporting—including napkins, detergents, and various other items—were reduced to ashes in the inferno.
Swift Rescue Efforts Avert Major Tragedy
Fire and emergency services personnel, alongside police and local residents, rushed to the spot promptly. Their quick action enabled the rescue of the car's occupants during the early stages of the fire, successfully averting what could have been a major tragedy. The injured individuals have been identified as Manjunath, aged 45, and Gopi, aged 48. Both were shifted to a private hospital in Hoskote and are reported to be out of danger.
Remarkably, three other occupants of the car managed to escape unhurt from the blazing vehicle. The truck driver also survived the incident, having managed to exit the truck immediately after the collision.
Emergency Response and Investigation Underway
A senior police officer confirmed that three fire tenders were pressed into service to combat the flames and fully extinguish the fire. The incident caused a substantial traffic jam on the highway for nearly three hours as emergency crews worked at the scene. After the fire was doused, the charred remains of both vehicles were removed using cranes to clear the roadway.
Hoskote traffic police have registered a case regarding the accident and are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances and potential violations that led to this dangerous highway blaze. Authorities are emphasizing the dangers of overspeeding, particularly during nighttime hours on busy national highways.
