The incident took place on the evening of Sunday, March 23. According to police reports, the toddler, identified as Nihal, was playing near his home in Mylanahalli village, Nelamangala, when the tragedy struck. A white Maruti Suzuki Ciaz sedan, allegedly being driven at high speed, mowed down the child and fled the scene without stopping.
The entire sequence was recorded by a closed-circuit television camera installed in the locality. The footage, which later went viral on social media, clearly shows the car hitting the child and speeding away. This visual evidence became crucial for the police investigation.
Swift Police Action Leads to Driver's Arrest
Acting on the CCTV evidence and a complaint filed by the child's family, the Nelamangala Town Police swiftly launched a manhunt. The police team tracked down the vehicle and apprehended the driver. The accused has been identified as Manjunath, a 24-year-old resident of Gollahalli.
Authorities have confirmed that the car involved in the fatal accident has been seized. The driver now faces serious legal consequences. A case has been registered under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.
