Bengaluru Hotel Targeted in Overnight Burglary, Rs 2.4 Lakh Stolen
A hotel located in the Banashankari III Phase area of south Bengaluru fell victim to a brazen burglary in the early hours of February 2. A gang of unidentified miscreants forcibly entered the premises by breaking open the rear entrance, making off with a substantial sum of Rs 2.4 lakh from the cashier box.
Details of the Incident and Employee Account
The incident was reported by Santosh Shetty, a 42-year-old employee of the Ayodhya Upachar Hotel, situated near Janata Bazaar on the 100 Feet Ring Road. According to Shetty's statement to the police, the hotel's main door had been securely shut around 11:15 PM on February 1, following the conclusion of the day's business operations.
After meticulously calculating the day's total collection, which amounted to Rs 2.4 lakh, Shetty placed the cash securely inside the hotel's designated cashier box. Subsequently, the hotel staff retired for the night, sleeping on the second floor of the building, completely unaware of the impending criminal activity.
Discovery of the Burglary and Scene Investigation
The burglary was discovered between 6:00 AM and 6:30 AM on February 2 when an employee arrived to open the hotel for the day. Upon entering, the employee immediately noticed that the furniture was in disarray and promptly informed Shetty. A closer inspection revealed that items on the cash counter were scattered, and the cash drawer was found to be wide open.
Shetty then discovered that the drawer had been forcibly broken open with the assistance of an iron rod, which the thieves had callously left behind at the crime scene. The entire sum of Rs 2.4 lakh was confirmed to be missing. A thorough police inspection later confirmed that the hotel's back door had been the point of entry, with the lock smashed using the same iron rod.
Ongoing Police Investigation and Efforts
Local law enforcement authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into the burglary. Police officials are currently in the process of verifying and analyzing CCTV footage from the vicinity in an earnest attempt to identify the perpetrators. The primary objective is to track down and apprehend the miscreants responsible for this audacious theft.
The incident has raised concerns about security measures in commercial establishments, particularly during nighttime hours. The police are urging hotel owners and business operators to enhance their security protocols to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
