Bengaluru Mechanic Brutally Killed in Hafta Dispute, Seven Suspects Arrested

In a shocking incident in Bengaluru, a 45-year-old mechanic was allegedly beaten to death by a group wielding a cricket bat and wooden logs. The attack occurred in front of his children near Bade Makhan in Wilson Garden on Sunday night, stemming from a prolonged dispute over hafta (protection money) and property rights.

Details of the Tragic Attack

The deceased, identified as Rasheed Pasha from Anepalya, had been operating a four-wheeler garage for over six years on a property belonging to the Waqf Board. According to police reports, the gang, led by a man named Asgar, had allegedly obtained documents related to the property through the Right to Information Act and had been demanding hafta from Rasheed for more than a year.

When Rasheed refused to pay, the accused reportedly lodged complaints with the Waqf Board, police, and government authorities last year. In response, Rasheed approached the Waqf Board and secured permission to continue running his garage by paying rent, which seemed to resolve the issue temporarily.

Escalation Leading to Violence

On Sunday, Rasheed began constructing a concrete roof over his shop. Alerted by a local informant, Asgar sent associates to verify the work, and upon confirmation, the accused demanded that Rasheed immediately stop the construction, claiming he had encroached on Waqf Board property. Rasheed refused to halt the work or pay any hafta, questioning their authority to interfere.

Later that night, the situation escalated when Pervez, Asgar, and others arrived at the garage and confronted Rasheed. His children and brother were present during the heated argument that ensued. During the altercation, Rasheed reportedly picked up a cricket bat and struck one of the accused. In retaliation, police stated that Pervez snatched the bat and repeatedly assaulted Rasheed, striking him hard on the head.

Aftermath and Police Response

Rasheed sustained severe head injuries and collapsed on the ground, bleeding profusely. The accused fled the scene immediately after the attack. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries within minutes. Following the incident, hundreds of people gathered at the spot, creating tension in the area, prompting police to deploy additional personnel to maintain law and order.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Hakay Akshay Machhindra confirmed that seven people have been arrested in connection with the case and are being interrogated to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the attack. The arrested individuals include Pervez, Asgar, Munawar, Sameer, and three others.

Rasheed's brother informed the police that Asgar, Pervez, and others had been harassing Rasheed for over a year. A case has been registered at the Wilson Garden police station, and investigations are ongoing to ensure justice is served.
