Bengaluru Murder: Friend Allegedly Kills Man Over Feelings for Victim's Wife

A shocking murder case has emerged from Bengaluru, where a 42-year-old man was allegedly killed by his friend after the two consumed alcohol together near a bar in RK Township Layout, Yarandahalli, near Bommasandra. The incident occurred on the night of March 25, leading to a grim discovery the following day.

Victim and Accused Identified

The deceased has been identified as Sunil Nayak, a construction labourer who lived with his wife, Pushpa, in a rented house in Police Layout, Yarandahalli. The accused is 30-year-old Basudev Mallick, a native of Odisha who also worked as a construction worker and was known to Nayak. According to police reports, Mallick allegedly stuffed Nayak's body into a plastic gunny bag before fleeing the scene.

Discovery of the Body

On March 26, when Nayak failed to return home, his wife Pushpa informed their landlord, Anand N, that her husband had been missing since the previous afternoon. Nayak had left home after lunch and was unreachable by phone. Anand, along with Pushpa and her relatives, began searching for Nayak. During their search, they discovered a gunny bag in an empty plot near the bar. Upon opening it, they found Nayak's body stuffed inside, leading to immediate police involvement.

Police Investigation and Motive

A case of murder was registered, and during the investigation, police found that Nayak and Mallick had purchased liquor at a bar on the night of the incident. Based on clues, police began searching for Mallick and eventually nabbed the accused. During interrogation, Mallick confessed that he had allegedly developed intentions to be in a relationship with Pushpa and believed that eliminating Nayak would clear the way for him.

Mallick told police that a couple of days before the murder, Pushpa had shared her personal difficulties with him, stating that Nayak had assaulted her over trivial issues under the influence of alcohol and often fought with her after returning home from work. As Mallick had feelings for her, he decided to kill Nayak. On the night of the incident, Mallick slit Nayak's throat when he was under the influence of alcohol. He then stuffed the body in a gunny bag with a plan to dispose of it elsewhere, but noticing people near the bar, he abandoned the body at the empty space.

Police Recovery and Clarifications

Police recovered the knife used in the crime from Mallick. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Electronics City) M Narayana clarified that Pushpa had no role in the crime, emphasizing that she had merely shared her personal difficulties with Mallick and sought his emotional support. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities ensuring that all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined.
