Bengaluru police have dismantled an international drug trafficking network with the arrest of eight individuals, including three foreign nationals, and the seizure of 17 kilograms of MDMA worth approximately Rs 17 crore. The operation was led by the city police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh after a tip-off led to the bust.
Mastermind Behind the Racket
The drug ring was allegedly orchestrated by Reena Yadav, also known as Bapi, a 50-year-old woman from Delhi who was released from jail last year after serving a 13-year sentence in a criminal conspiracy case. According to police officials, Yadav masterminded the entire operation from behind the scenes, coordinating with her associates to ensure the smooth flow of contraband into Bengaluru.
Key Arrests and Roles
Among those arrested are Dheeraj and Debashish Banerjee, alias Debu, who were responsible for collecting and transporting the drugs before handing them over to operatives based in Bengaluru. The contraband was reportedly carried by foreign women acting as couriers. The other Indian nationals arrested include Mohammed Masoor P and Abdul Samad, both natives of Dakshina Kannada, who were residing in a rented accommodation in Bengaluru. The three foreign nationals arrested are Obianuju Rita from Nigeria, Margereth Linginiko Chale from Tanzania, and Danfa Gerald from Senegal.
Police Operation Details
The investigation began after Hebbal police received a tip-off on May 11 regarding a drug sale near an apartment in Unnathi Layout, Anandnagar. Acting on this information, police learned that three individuals were allegedly selling MDMA from a car near the apartment. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Division) BS Nemagoud led the operation, resulting in the successful bust of the network.
Commissioner Singh emphasized the significance of this operation, stating that it has dealt a major blow to the illegal drug trade in the city. The police are now investigating further to uncover additional links and possibly more arrests.
