Bengaluru Police Recover 641 Stolen Mobile Phones Worth Rs 1.6 Crore Using Advanced CEIR Technology

In a significant crackdown on mobile phone theft, the East Division police in Bengaluru have successfully recovered approximately 641 stolen mobile phones with a total estimated value of Rs 1.6 crore. This impressive recovery operation was conducted between January and February 28, leveraging the sophisticated Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) software tool.

Public Return of Recovered Devices at Grievance Meeting

The recovered mobile phones were officially returned to their rightful owners on Saturday during the monthly public grievance meeting held in Indiranagar. The event was presided over by Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh, who oversaw the distribution and emphasized the police department's commitment to combating theft and ensuring public safety.

How CEIR Technology Facilitated the Recovery

Police officials explained that the CEIR is a powerful software tool designed to detect the use of stolen mobile phones by tracking their unique International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers and associated SIM card details. This technology enables law enforcement to identify and locate devices that have been reported stolen, even if they are being used with different SIM cards.

Coordinated Operation Across Multiple Police Stations

As part of a special anti-theft operation, the East Division police coordinated efforts across numerous stations to trace and recover the stolen devices. The operation involved personnel from Halasuru, Byappanahalli, Indiranagar, Banaswadi, Hennur, Govindapura, DJ Halli, KG Halli, Ramamurthynagar, JB Nagar, Pulakeshinagar, Bharathi Nagar, Commercial Street, and Shivajinagar police stations. This widespread collaboration was crucial in achieving the recovery of 641 phones within the two-month period.

The successful use of CEIR technology highlights a proactive approach to tackling mobile phone theft in Bengaluru, providing a model for other cities to follow. Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh praised the efforts of the East Division team and encouraged citizens to report thefts promptly to enhance recovery chances through such technological interventions.
