Bengaluru Police Swiftly Rescue Twin Toddlers After Bedroom Lock-In Incident
In a late-night emergency in Bengaluru, city police successfully rescued three-year-old twin girls who had accidentally locked themselves inside a bedroom at their home in Ramamurthy Nagar. The incident occurred on Friday evening, prompting a quick response from law enforcement after the children's parents, both working professionals, dialed the emergency control room number 112 around 11:20 PM.
Accidental Locking During Playtime
According to police reports, the twins were playing in the bedroom while their parents were watching television in another part of the house. During their play, the girls operated the multi-point locking system on the door, inadvertently locking it from the inside. Soon after, the children began crying, alerting their parents to the situation.
The parents immediately tried to calm the toddlers and provide instructions on how to unlock the door, but the young girls were unable to follow the guidance due to their distress and age. Neighbors, hearing the commotion, gathered at the house to assist. Some suggested breaking the door open, but the family lacked the necessary tools. An external window with iron grills also proved inaccessible, leaving no easy way to reach the children.
Rapid Police Intervention
Upon calling the emergency number 112, the parents were relieved when a Hoysala police vehicle arrived at their residence in less than 10 minutes. Assistant Sub-Inspector Gurumurthy and Head Constable Vekantesh assessed the situation, speaking to the children through the door to reassure them. "They were both crying. Using an iron rod and other materials, we pried open the door and broke the lock," Gurumurthy stated.
The officers managed to force the door open, finding the girls standing near the bed and still in tears. They promptly asked the mother to console the toddlers, ensuring their safety and well-being after the ordeal. The entire rescue operation was completed efficiently, highlighting the effectiveness of Bengaluru's emergency response systems.
Community and Safety Implications
This incident underscores the importance of child safety measures in homes, especially with young children who may inadvertently engage with locking mechanisms. The quick thinking of the parents in contacting emergency services, combined with the swift action of the police, prevented a potentially dangerous situation from escalating.
Residents in the area have praised the police response, noting how such emergencies can occur unexpectedly. Authorities recommend that families with small children consider installing child-proof locks or keeping tools handy for emergencies, though in this case, the professional intervention proved crucial.
The twins are reported to be safe and unharmed, with the family expressing gratitude to the police and neighbors for their support during the stressful event.
