Bengaluru Cash Collection Agent Robbed of Rs 31 Lakh by Bike-Borne Miscreants on Bannerghatta Road
In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the city, a private company employee was robbed of a staggering Rs 31 lakh in cash by four bike-borne miscreants on Bannerghatta Road in Bengaluru on Sunday evening. The victim, identified as Kailash from Madanayakanahalli, worked as a cash-collection agent for the past two years, making this a targeted attack on his daily routine.
Details of the Daily Cash Collection Routine
Kailash's job involved collecting substantial amounts of cash—typically between Rs 20 and Rs 40 lakh daily—from various firms across the city. He would then ride back on his gearless scooter to his office in Nelamangala in the evening. According to police reports, he routinely placed the cash bundles in the dickey of his scooter before handing over the money to his employer, Rakesh Kumar. Rakesh Kumar had a contract with an e-commerce platform, highlighting the high-stakes nature of this cash-handling role.
The Fateful Sunday Afternoon Robbery
On Sunday, Kailash had collected Rs 31 lakh in cash for the day and, as usual, stored it inside his scooter's dickey. Around 4:20 PM, while on Sakalavara Road in the Bannerghatta area, four men—two on a scooter and two on a motorbike—blocked his path under the guise of seeking directions. In a statement to the Bannerghatta police, Kailash recounted the terrifying moments that followed.
"Before I could answer, one of them attacked me with a machete. I panicked and they pushed me down. Another man snatched my mobile phone and they rode away with my scooter," he said, describing the swift and violent nature of the robbery.
Aftermath and Police Investigation
In a state of shock, Kailash managed to flag down a passing motorbike and requested the rider to drop him near the police station. After traveling nearly 1 kilometer, he spotted his abandoned scooter by the side of the road. The ignition key was still in place, but the cash bag containing the Rs 31 lakh was missing, indicating a well-executed theft. Authorities are now investigating the incident, focusing on the modus operandi of the miscreants and any potential leads from the abandoned vehicle.
This incident underscores the risks faced by cash-handling employees in urban areas like Bengaluru, where such high-value robberies can occur in broad daylight. It also raises questions about security measures for individuals involved in cash collection, especially given the routine nature of Kailash's work. The police are urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, as they work to apprehend the culprits and recover the stolen funds.
