Bengaluru Scooter Catches Fire After High-Speed MUV Collision

A terrifying road accident in Bengaluru's RT Nagar area resulted in a scooter being completely gutted by fire after it was struck by a speeding Multi-Utility Vehicle (MUV). The incident occurred on Saturday night on Jayamahal Main Road, where the MUV rear-ended the gearless scooter with significant force.

CCTV Footage Captures the Horrific Sequence of Events

The entire accident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera, providing clear evidence of how the collision unfolded. The footage shows the MUV approaching at high speed before making direct contact with the scooter from behind. Upon impact, the scooter fell violently onto its left side and became trapped beneath the front-left wheel of the larger vehicle.

The MUV then continued moving for approximately 100 metres, dragging the mangled scooter along the road surface. During this dragging motion, petrol began leaking from the scooter's damaged fuel tank. The combination of friction, sparks, and flammable fuel created the perfect conditions for an accidental fire to break out.

Rider Hospitalized with Minor Injuries

The scooter rider, identified as Roopa from Sanjaynagar, was fortunately able to escape with relatively minor injuries despite the severity of the collision and subsequent fire. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment and observation. Police officials confirmed that her injuries were not life-threatening.

"The rider sustained minor injuries in the accident and has been hospitalized for proper care," stated authorities from the RT Nagar traffic police department.

Driver Flees the Scene, Police Launch Manhunt

In a concerning development, the driver of the MUV abandoned the vehicle at the accident site and fled the scene before authorities could arrive. The RT Nagar traffic police have confirmed they are actively searching for the driver, who now faces serious charges including reckless driving, causing an accident, and leaving the scene of a collision.

Police are examining the CCTV footage carefully to identify the driver and vehicle registration details. They have appealed to witnesses to come forward with any additional information that might help locate the responsible individual.

Road Safety Concerns in Bengaluru

This incident highlights ongoing road safety challenges in Bengaluru, particularly concerning:

  • Speeding vehicles in residential and main road areas
  • The vulnerability of two-wheeler riders in collisions with larger vehicles
  • Fire hazards created by fuel leakage in accident scenarios
  • Hit-and-run incidents that complicate investigation and justice

The police have emphasized the importance of defensive driving and adherence to speed limits, especially on busy roads like Jayamahal Main Road. They also reminded drivers of their legal and moral responsibility to remain at accident scenes and assist injured parties.
