A female student in Bengaluru has filed a complaint alleging sexual harassment by the owner of a mobile phone shop and his assistant. The incident occurred when she visited the shop to purchase a phone charger.
According to the police, the student, a resident of the Jnanabharathi area, went to the shop on Monday evening. The shop owner and his assistant allegedly made inappropriate comments and touched her inappropriately. When she resisted, they threatened her.
The student immediately lodged a complaint at the Jnanabharathi police station. Based on her statement, the police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation).
Police Investigation Underway
Senior police officials have taken cognizance of the matter and assured a thorough investigation. The accused have been identified, and efforts are on to apprehend them. The police have also recorded the student's statement and are collecting evidence, including CCTV footage from the shop.
This incident has sparked outrage among residents and student groups, who have demanded strict action against the perpetrators. Activists have called for increased safety measures for women in public spaces.
