Bengaluru Police Nab Thief Who Targeted Children at Public Events
In a significant breakthrough, Bengaluru police have arrested a 45-year-old man accused of orchestrating a series of thefts targeting children at marriage halls and public gatherings, as well as stealing vehicles. The suspect, identified as Babu alias Pulsar Babu, a native of Channapatna, was apprehended red-handed while attempting a theft at a function in Palace Grounds on March 7.
Stolen Booty Worth Rs 42 Lakh Recovered
Authorities have recovered a substantial cache of stolen items from the accused, with an estimated total value of Rs 42 lakh. The recovered booty includes:
- 132 grams of gold ornaments
- Seven mobile phones
- Two laptops
- Two cars
- Four two-wheelers
- Rs 1.2 lakh in cash
This recovery marks a major success in the police's efforts to curb theft-related crimes in the city.
Modus Operandi: Gaining Trust of Children
According to police officials, Babu employed a cunning strategy to execute his crimes. He would dress well and visit convention halls and public gatherings, specifically targeting children below 12-13 years of age. By gaining their trust through friendly interactions, he would then discreetly steal their gold and silver ornaments.
One victim, an Electronics City resident, reported that his daughter's gold-plated silver chain and gold pendant, worth approximately Rs 70,000, were stolen at Palace Grounds on May 9, 2025. The theft occurred while the child was playing on the premises of Princess Golf Convention Hall. At the time, the case remained unsolved as the CCTV camera was not functioning, preventing the capture of the suspect. Babu has now confessed to committing this theft.
Linked to Over 19 Theft Cases
Police investigations have revealed that Babu is linked to more than 19 theft cases across multiple police stations in Bengaluru. His criminal activities spanned various locations, making him a persistent threat to public safety. The arrest has brought relief to many affected families and highlighted the importance of vigilance at crowded events.
This case underscores the need for enhanced security measures at public gatherings to protect vulnerable individuals, especially children, from such predatory crimes.
