Bhilwara Police Nab Bachhada Gang for Temple Festival Jewelry Theft

In a significant crackdown, Kotdi police in Bhilwara district arrested seven members of the notorious 'Bachhada' gang from Madhya Pradesh late Thursday. The arrests came in connection with a daring jewelry theft during the Rangotsav celebration at the Mewar Charbhuja temple on the Sheetla Saptami festival.

Unusual Discovery During Medical Examination

During a routine medical examination of the accused, an X-ray revealed a shocking find: a stolen mangalsutra concealed in the private parts of one of the suspects. Female doctors at the district hospital later extracted the ornament, which was seized along with other stolen gold items. Kotdi station house officer Mahaveer Prasad Meena noted that this is the first time such a case has come before the police, highlighting the gang's audacious methods.

Complaint and Investigation Details

The investigation began after Radha Aheer filed a complaint stating that during the Rangotsav program on March 11, women walking behind her cut and stole her gold mangalsutra and six small gold beads. Acting swiftly, a special team under Shahpura additional superintendent of police Rajesh Arya and SHO Meena scanned CCTV footage around the temple and intensified night patrolling.

Their efforts paid off when police intercepted a suspicious car carrying six women and a male driver. During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to the theft, leading to their arrest.

Arrests and Legal Action

Police arrested the driver, 31-year-old Shanu, and six women: Vartika (20), Barji Bai (52), Basanti (60), Maina (28), Payal (20), and Sapna (32). A case has been registered under the BNS Act, and a thorough investigation has been launched to uncover further details of the gang's activities.

Bhilwara superintendent of police Dharmendra Singh emphasized the importance of community vigilance and police diligence in tackling such crimes. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for heightened security during large public gatherings, especially at religious festivals.
