A 10-hour road blockade in the Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh concluded at 2:00 am on Tuesday night after local administrative officials reached a consensus with the protesters. The demonstration was organized to protest the alleged abduction, gang rape, and murder of a ninth-class student from Gwalior's Gol Pahadiya locality. Following the resolution, the victim's last rites were performed on Wednesday morning.
Details of the Protest
The protest began on Tuesday when the minor's body arrived in the village. Agitated residents blocked the road with the body, demanding a fast-track court trial, compensation of one crore rupees, a government job for a family member, and arms licenses for security. The administration provided a written assurance guaranteeing village-level employment for a family member, four arms licenses, and a lease for eight bighas of government land. Community representative Anil Gurjar then announced the end of the sit-in.
Investigation and Arrests
According to police, the victim was abducted on May 28 by youths from her own village. Investigators revealed a human trafficking angle, stating that the girl was allegedly traded for 50,000 rupees during the commission of the crime before being murdered. Police have apprehended three suspects and registered cases against them for kidnapping, murder, and gang rape. Provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC-ST) Act have also been invoked.
The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy, as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault.
