Bhopal: Two Police Constables Suspended for Extortion, Misbehaviour with Junior Doctors
Bhopal Cops Suspended for Misbehaving with Doctors

In a significant disciplinary action, the Bhopal police suspended two of its constables on Monday following serious allegations of misbehaviour and extortion made by a group of junior doctors. The incident, which has sparked outrage, occurred at the popular Kaliasot Dam area.

Protest and Probe Lead to Suspension

The suspension orders were issued directly by Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra. This decisive step came after members of the Junior Doctors' Association (JUDA) staged a strong protest, demanding strict action against the accused personnel. The doctors had submitted a formal written complaint detailing the harrowing experience.

Taking immediate cognisance of the serious allegations, Commissioner Mishra ordered a thorough inquiry. He directed Assistant Commissioner of Police (Chunabhatti) Anjali Raghuvanshi to investigate the matter and submit a detailed report. Following her probe, ACP Raghuvanshi found prima facie evidence of "suspicious conduct" by the police personnel involved.

Details of the Alleged Incident

According to the complaint filed by JUDA, the unsettling event took place on November 28. A group of three junior doctors—one male and two female—had visited the Kaliasot Dam area. They were allegedly stopped by four men, which included the two now-suspended constables and two of their acquaintances.

The doctors accused the group of subjecting them to verbal abuse and coercing them into making digital payments. In a particularly disturbing claim, one of the policemen is alleged to have passed a highly objectionable remark directed at the female doctors. To substantiate their extortion allegation, JUDA members provided digital payment records as evidence to the investigating officer.

Swift Action and Official Confirmation

Based on the findings in ACP Raghuvanshi's report, Commissioner Mishra issued suspension orders against constables Sunil and Matadin. One of the constables was posted at the Habibganj police station, while the other served at the Teela Jamalpura police station.

Confirming the disciplinary action, Commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra stated that the two personnel were suspended specifically on charges of misbehaviour and extortion. This swift action underscores the police department's stance against misconduct within its ranks, especially when it involves the intimidation of young medical professionals.
