BHOPAL: In a significant development in the alleged dowry death case of Twisha, both the accused and the complainant's family have filed separate applications before a Bhopal court, seeking the preservation and scrutiny of electronic evidence.
Accused's Application
Retired district judge Giribala Singh and her advocate son Samarth Singh, who are the accused in the case, submitted an application before Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Anudita Gupta. They alleged procedural lapses in the seizure of CCTV DVRs from their Katara Hills residence. Their counsel argued that the police seized DVRs linked to eight CCTV cameras without preparing a mandatory panchnama or obtaining witness signatures. Additionally, they claimed that the occupants were not asked to identify persons seen in the footage, and pointed to alleged timestamp discrepancies, suggesting the footage was misrepresented. The defense also sought a forensic examination of mobile phones, alleging that edited WhatsApp chats and calls were being circulated.
Complainant's Family Plea
In a separate plea, Twisha's family requested the preservation of call detail records, tower location data, and CCTV footage from AIIMS Bhopal between May 12 and May 20, 2026. They alleged possible attempts to influence the investigation following Twisha's death on May 12. Both applications are currently under consideration by the court.
