Bhopal Weights and Measures Department Evacuated Over Hoax Cyanide Bomb Threat Email

A government office in Bhopal was thrown into chaos on Monday morning after receiving a threatening email that claimed cyanide gas bombs were planted on the premises, ready to detonate. This alarming incident marks the latest in a series of similar hoaxes targeting official buildings in the city, raising serious security concerns.

Panic and Precautionary Evacuation at MP Nagar Office

Employees at the weights and measures department in MP Nagar were immediately evacuated from the building as a precautionary measure after the email was received. The message created significant panic, with staff rushing to safety upon learning of the alleged threat. Police officials stated that the email specifically claimed that 16 cylinders filled with cyanide gas had been strategically placed inside the premises and were set to explode simultaneously around 1 pm.

Officials wasted no time in alerting the police after receiving the menacing communication. Teams from the MP Nagar police station, along with specialized units including the bomb disposal and diffusion squad (BDDS), dog squad, and other security agencies, swiftly rushed to the spot to assess the situation and ensure public safety.

Thorough Search Reveals No Explosives, Confirming Hoax

MP Nagar SHO Jai Hind Sharma reported that the BDDS team conducted an exhaustive inspection of the building, meticulously checking offices, storage rooms, and surrounding areas for nearly two hours. Despite the detailed search, no suspicious cylinders or any explosive materials were discovered on the premises. A preliminary investigation conclusively confirmed that the threatening email was a hoax, designed to create fear and disruption.

This incident follows similar threats at other government locations in Bhopal, including AIIMS, a hospital, and three other government offices, making it the third such alarming event in recent days. The pattern of these hoaxes has prompted heightened vigilance and a coordinated response from law enforcement agencies.

Police Launch Investigation with Cyber-Crime Branch

In response to this recurring menace, the police have now launched a comprehensive investigation in collaboration with the cyber-crime branch to identify and apprehend the sender of the hoax email. Authorities are determined to trace the origin of these threats and hold the perpetrators accountable under the law. The investigation aims to uncover the motives behind these false alarms and prevent future incidents that could endanger public safety and disrupt government operations.

The repeated nature of these threats underscores the need for robust cybersecurity measures and public awareness to combat such malicious activities effectively. As the probe continues, officials urge citizens to remain calm and report any suspicious communications immediately to the authorities.
