Bhopal Police File Criminal Case Over Lift Collapse That Injured 24-Year-Old

In a significant development, police in Bhopal have taken legal action nearly a month after a serious lift collapse incident at Chinar Dream City in Misrod. On Saturday, authorities filed a criminal case against three individuals, holding the society management and maintenance team directly responsible for what they term gross negligence.

The Incident That Led to Serious Injury

The incident occurred on the morning of February 28, when 24-year-old Anuj Pathrol, a resident of Vidisha who works in marketing for a private company in Mandideep, was heading to his office. Anuj resides in the I-Block of Chinar Dream City and was accompanied by his colleague, Pradeep Yadav, at the time of the accident.

According to police reports and eyewitness accounts, the two men boarded the lift from the sixth floor of their residential block. Suddenly, the lift malfunctioned and plunged downward, creating a terrifying situation for the occupants. Anuj attempted to activate the emergency button in a desperate bid to halt the descent, but the safety mechanism failed to function due to what investigators have identified as a technical fault.

The violent impact of the uncontrolled fall resulted in a severe injury to Anuj, specifically a fracture of his right ankle bone. His colleague, Pradeep Yadav, who witnessed the entire incident, immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.

Police Investigation and Legal Action

After receiving initial treatment at the hospital, Anuj returned to his native town to continue his recovery. However, the matter did not end there. On Saturday, he formally lodged a written complaint at the Misrod police station, detailing the circumstances of the accident and the negligence he believes led to his injuries.

Police took the complaint seriously and launched a thorough investigation into the incident. Their findings pointed directly to failures in maintenance and oversight. As a result, authorities have identified and named three individuals as responsible parties:

  • Jaipal Sharma - Sub-committee chairman of the society management
  • Neeraj Pawar - Lift repair in-charge
  • Prakash Vishwakarma - Maintenance head

The police have determined that these individuals failed in their duties to ensure proper lift maintenance and safety protocols, leading to the dangerous malfunction that caused Anuj's injury. The criminal case filed against them underscores the seriousness with which authorities are treating this incident of alleged negligence in residential safety management.

This case highlights ongoing concerns about maintenance standards in residential complexes and the legal accountability of those responsible for ensuring resident safety in multi-story buildings.
