A disturbing case of stalking and molestation has come to light in Bhopal, where a 28-year-old man allegedly targeted a young girl living in his neighbourhood. The accused has been booked under stringent laws following a police complaint.
Prolonged Harassment Ignored
According to the police, the victim is a 13-year-old student of class 6. In her statement, she revealed that the accused, who resides in the same locality, had been harassing her for a considerable period. The man allegedly made it a habit to pass obscene comments at her whenever she stepped out of her home.
Initially, the young girl chose to ignore his offensive actions, hoping he would stop. However, the accused did not cease his misconduct, creating an atmosphere of fear and discomfort for the minor.
The Final Straw and Police Action
The situation reached a breaking point on Saturday morning. When the accused repeated his actions and passed lewd comments once again, the girl decided she could no longer stay silent. She gathered courage and narrated the entire ordeal to her parents.
Following her parents' guidance, the matter was formally reported to the police on Sunday. The authorities acted promptly on the complaint. A case of molestation was registered against the 28-year-old accused on the same day.
Legal Repercussions Under Stringent Laws
The police have invoked relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to address the molestation charges. Given the victim's age, the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act have also been applied. The POCSO Act mandates severe punishment for crimes against minors and ensures a child-friendly legal process.
This case highlights the critical importance of speaking up against harassment. The girl's decision to inform her parents and approach the police has set the legal process in motion, aiming to bring the perpetrator to justice and prevent further incidents.
