Bhopal Police Crack Junnardeo Poisoned Sweets Case, Arrest In-Laws Over Domestic Dispute

In a significant breakthrough, the Bhopal police claimed on Sunday to have cracked the Junnardeo poisoned sweets case, leading to the arrest of three members of a woman's in-laws' family. The investigation has revealed that this deadly act was driven by a festering domestic dispute and a deep-seated desire for revenge, shedding light on the tragic consequences of family conflicts.

Domestic Dispute Fuels Deadly Conspiracy

According to investigators, the conspiracy was allegedly hatched by Khushbu's father-in-law, Jhadu Kasar, along with her brother-in-law, Shubham, and sister-in-law, Shivani. The trio was aggrieved by allegations of harassment and ill-treatment leveled against them by Khushbu following her marriage in January 2024. Police officials stated that these allegations led to significant social embarrassment for the in-laws' kin, which in turn fueled the plot to poison sweets as a form of retaliation.

Details of the Poisoning Incident

The accused mixed arsenic (somal) into pedas, with forensic science laboratory tests later revealing quantities thousands of times higher than normal. They hung the packet in a bag near the shop of Khushbu's father. However, the first victim turned out to be PHE office chowkidar Dashru Yaduvanshi, who fell ill after consuming the sweets. The remaining sweets were subsequently taken home by Khushbu's mother, leading to the tragic deaths of Khushbu and her father-in-law. Fortunately, Khushbu's mother and sister, Pooja, survived the poisoning.

Police Investigation and Arrests

Police authorities reported that technical evidence and location inputs were crucial in establishing the presence of all three accused in Junnardeo on the day the first incident was reported. Junnardeo PS in-charge, Rakesh Baghel, explained to TOI, "The in-laws of Khushbu, who died of poisoning, had a dispute and planned the crime. On the day when the first incident was reported, all three were seen in Junnardeo. We took them into custody and, during interrogation, they spilled the beans. They were angry because the deceased girl wasn't living with them and was also speaking ill about them with other relatives. We arrested all three on Sunday and took them on remand for further questioning."

This case highlights the severe outcomes of unresolved family disputes and underscores the importance of addressing domestic issues through legal and peaceful means. The police's swift action in solving this case brings a measure of justice to the victims and their families.
