Bhubaneswar Woman Dies by Suicide During Video Call, Police Launch Investigation
A tragic incident has shaken the capital city of Odisha, as a 22-year-old woman from Nayagarh district died by suicide on Wednesday while reportedly on a video call with a man. According to police sources, the woman, who was employed with a pharmaceutical company in Bhubaneswar, was found hanging in her rented accommodation in the Unit-III area under Kharavel Nagar police limits.
Details of the Incident and Police Response
Her body was discovered in the room she shared with another working woman. Police officers stated that the circumstances surrounding the incident are under thorough investigation. "We are working diligently to determine the reasons behind this suicide," said an officer from the Kharavel Nagar police station. The victim's phone has been sent to a cyber forensic laboratory for detailed examination, and authorities are scrutinising her social media activity and call records.
In a chilling sequence of events, around 7 am on Wednesday, the woman asked her roommate to go to the market to buy fish. She then locked herself inside the room, made a video call, and allegedly hanged herself. No suicide note was found at the scene. "We had to break open the door to retrieve the body," the officer added, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
Family Statements and Ongoing Probe
Family members expressed shock and confusion, stating they were unaware of any stress she might have been facing. "She did not share anything with us. We are not aware if she had been under stress," a relative mentioned, adding to the mystery of the case. Police have indicated that they will question the man she was speaking to during the video call, as part of their efforts to uncover the full story behind this heartbreaking event.
The investigation continues, with authorities focusing on forensic evidence and witness statements to piece together the events leading up to the suicide. This incident underscores the need for mental health awareness and support in urban working environments.
