Notorious Bihar Criminal Arrested in Rishikesh After 6-Month Jailbreak Manhunt
Police on Thursday successfully apprehended one of the two notorious criminals from Bihar who had executed a daring escape from the high-security Choudwar circle jail in Cuttack on October 3 last year. The arrested accused has been identified as Raja Sahani, a resident of Begusarai district in Bihar. He was captured from Rishikesh in Uttarakhand following nearly six months of intensive investigation and coordinated multi-state tracking efforts.
Details of the Daring Jailbreak
Sahani, along with his co-accused Madhukant Rana, had managed to break out of the jail by cutting through the cell grills and scaling a formidable 22-foot-high boundary wall using ropes ingeniously crafted from blankets. This incident had sparked serious security concerns and highlighted vulnerabilities in the prison system. Both individuals were facing serious charges, including double murder and armed robbery, at the time of their escape. Rana was previously arrested from Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh back in February.
Elusive Fugitive and Police Investigation
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cuttack) Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo provided insights into the challenging manhunt. He stated that the accused had been constantly on the move to evade capture. “Raja Sahani frequently changed his locations, identities, and even occupations to avoid detection. He also deliberately stayed away from electronic devices to escape surveillance,” explained Khilari.
The police conducted extensive raids and verification drives across multiple states, including Bihar, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. During this period, it was revealed that the accused was also involved in a robbery in Karnataka before shifting his base once again, demonstrating his continued criminal activities while on the run.

Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing to thoroughly ascertain Sahani's activities during his time as a fugitive. Police are working to identify any possible criminal networks that may have assisted him in evading arrest for such an extended period.
