In the wake of the tragic fire at a guesthouse in Delhi's Malviya Nagar that claimed over 20 lives, the Bihar Police has initiated a comprehensive inspection of all hotels and guest houses in Patna and Nalanda districts. Central Range Inspector General (IG) Jitendra Rana has issued directives to all Station House Officers (SHOs) in these districts to carry out the exercise in three distinct phases: preparation of lists, verification of documents, and on-ground inspections.
Phase One: Listing Establishments
The first phase, which must be completed by June 15, requires SHOs to compile a complete list of all hotels and guest houses within their respective jurisdictions. These lists are to be submitted to the Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) of the concerned areas.
Phase Two: Document Verification
From June 15 to June 30, the second phase will focus on document verification at the police station level. Authorities will check licenses issued by the tourism department, fire department, municipal bodies, and the pollution control board. Establishments with missing or incomplete documents will be flagged.
Phase Three: On-Ground Inspections
During the third phase, SHOs will conduct physical inspections of hotels and guest houses in their areas to ensure compliance with license conditions and safety norms. A detailed report, including actions taken against non-compliant properties, will be submitted to senior officers after the process is complete.
IG Jitendra Rana emphasized the importance of cracking down on illegally operating establishments. He stated, "Action taken against establishments with missing or incomplete documents must be mentioned in the report, aiming to crack down on illegally operating properties." This move aims to prevent future tragedies and ensure the safety of guests in the region.
