Bihar Teen's Family Dispute Leads to Trafficking Ordeal, Rescue in Delhi
Bihar Teen Escapes Trafficking After Family Dispute in Delhi

Bihar Teenager's Family Argument Sparks Trafficking Nightmare in Delhi

A domestic dispute at home, often a trigger for teenage rebellion, took a terrifying turn for a 17-year-old girl from Darbhanga district in Bihar. What began as a heated family argument escalated into a harrowing human trafficking ordeal, narrowly averted through a timely police intervention in Delhi.

Escape from Home Leads to Danger

On March 14, the teenager left her home following a domestic spat, seeking an escape from the turmoil. Acting on a friend's advice, she traveled to Delhi, where she was met at the New Delhi railway station by her friend's 52-year-old acquaintance. Police reports indicate that the accused took her to his residence in Nehru Vihar, where she was held until April 2 under the pretext of being there for domestic work.

Allegations of Abuse and Threats

During her stay, the girl alleged that the man outraged her modesty, made inappropriate gestures, and threatened her with defamation if she disclosed the incidents. This created an environment of fear and coercion, trapping her in a vulnerable situation with no apparent way out.

Rescue and Arrest in Delhi

The breaking point came on April 2 at SN Marg. While the accused claimed he was meeting a friend to secure a job for her, the girl grew suspicious of the surroundings and felt increasingly unsafe. Spotting a women's patrolling team from the Kamla Market police station, she courageously signaled for help. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Rohit Rajbir Singh stated, "When the team visited a nearby shop to record witness statements, they discovered that the accused was trying to negotiate a deal to sell the girl."

A case was promptly registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. Following a medical examination and a hearing before the Child Welfare Committee, the girl was moved to a shelter home for safety and support. The accused was apprehended on the spot, facing serious legal consequences.

Broader Implications and Safety Measures

This incident highlights the critical vulnerabilities faced by teenagers in conflict situations, where what seems like an escape can lead to severe exploitation. It underscores the importance of:

  • Vigilance in family disputes to prevent such drastic actions.
  • Enhanced police patrolling in urban areas to intercept trafficking attempts.
  • Support systems like shelter homes for victims of abuse and trafficking.

The swift action by the Delhi police not only rescued the girl but also brought a perpetrator to justice, serving as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking in India.
