In a decisive crackdown on corruption, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) of Bihar executed two successful traps on Tuesday, leading to the arrest of a revenue employee in Patna and a police sub-inspector in Siwan while they were accepting bribes.
Revenue Clerk Caught Red-Handed in Patna
The first operation unfolded at the circle office in Masaurhi, located in Patna district. Raja Kumar, a revenue department employee, was apprehended by VIB officials at the very moment he was accepting a cash bribe of Rs 1 lakh.
The case stemmed from a formal complaint lodged by Ravish Kumar, a resident of Dhanauti in Jehanabad district. He alleged that the official was demanding illegal gratification to facilitate land clearance procedures. After verifying the complaint, the VIB police station in Patna registered a formal case on Monday.
An investigation team was formed under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohammad Wasim Firoz. The team laid a meticulous trap on Tuesday morning, leading to Raja Kumar's arrest as he accepted the money. The cash was recovered as evidence.
Sub-Inspector Nabbed at Siwan Tea Shop
In a parallel anti-corruption drive the same day, VIB sleuths arrested Sub-Inspector (SI) Kanhaiya Singh red-handed. The police officer was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 at a tea shop in Siwan district.
This arrest followed a case registered on December 22 based on a complaint by Sunil Kumar, a resident of Falpura. The complainant accused SI Kanhaiya, who was posted at Siswan police station, of demanding the bribe to remove his sister's name from a specific case (number 309/25).
After verification and gathering prima facie evidence, a team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Biplab Kumar set a trap. The SI was arrested at the tea shop situated at Maharana Pratap Chowk on the Siwan-Raghunathpur Road.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigations
Following the arrest in Patna, the accused revenue employee, Raja Kumar, was interrogated by officials. He is scheduled to be produced before the Special Court of Vigilance in Patna. Authorities have stated that the investigation is ongoing to uncover any further involvement or related irregularities in both cases.
These coordinated actions underscore the VIB's continued focus on tackling corruption at various levels of public service in Bihar. The arrests send a strong message against the demand and acceptance of bribes for performing official duties.
