Bihar Launches 'Darpan' Portal for Real-Time Crime Case Monitoring
Bihar's Darpan Portal Enables Real-Time Crime Monitoring

The Bihar government has taken a significant step toward modernizing law enforcement by launching a specialized digital platform called 'Darpan' for real-time monitoring of criminal cases registered across the state's extensive network of police stations.

Comprehensive Crime Tracking System

Developed under the supervision of the Crime Investigation Department (CID), the Darpan website represents a technological leap in crime management. Approximately 1,360 police stations throughout Bihar will be connected to this centralized system, enabling seamless access to case information for law enforcement personnel.

A senior IPS officer revealed that 360,000 cases have already been uploaded onto the platform, with an additional 40,000 cases scheduled for inclusion in the near future. The system accommodates both special and non-special category reports, creating a comprehensive database of criminal proceedings.

Detailed Case Information Available

The platform offers unprecedented access to case details, with 36 distinct types of information recorded for each First Information Report (FIR). This extensive data includes case numbers, district and police station details, dates, investigating officer names, complainant information, chargesheet status, and forensic science laboratory report updates.

"Any police officer can view complete details of the current status of any case from anywhere in the state," the officer emphasized. The system also tracks supervision reports, punishment details, and whether cases have been verified as legitimate, with all information being regularly updated to maintain accuracy.

Enhanced Accountability and Efficiency

The implementation of Darpan coincides with the nationwide rollout of new legal frameworks, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which replaced previous laws like the IPC and CrPC in July 2024.

Since these new legislations took effect, approximately 480,000 cases have been registered in Bihar, averaging about 1,008 FIRs monthly. A home department official highlighted that Darpan will facilitate real-time monitoring of all these cases, potentially accelerating their disposal within stipulated timeframes.

ADG Parasnath of CID, Bihar Police, confirmed that comprehensive training is being provided to all concerned personnel from inspector level upwards to ensure smooth operation of the Darpan system. "The Darpan website will be finalized soon, and all police stations will be connected to it," he stated, underscoring the government's commitment to this digital transformation in crime management.
