In a brazen daylight incident, two unidentified bike-borne thieves snatched a high-value mobile phone from a contractor in Bhopal. The crime occurred on Vidisha Road near a cement warehouse in the Chhola area.
Contractor targeted while waiting for auto
Police identified the victim as Ravi Meena, a 41-year-old contractor from Vidisha. He had come to Bhopal for work-related purposes on January 8.
At approximately 8:45 pm that evening, Meena stood near the cement warehouse on Vidisha Road. He was waiting for an auto-rickshaw when the incident unfolded.
Phone snatched during conversation
According to police reports, Meena received a phone call and began talking on his mobile. Two miscreants arrived suddenly on a motorcycle.
The thieves snatched the expensive handset directly from Meena's hand. They fled the spot immediately on their two-wheeler.
The stolen mobile phone carries a market value of approximately Rs 1.7 lakh. This represents a significant financial loss for the victim.
Delayed police complaint
Ravi Meena told authorities he initially tried to trace the mobile phone on his own. He pursued personal leads for several days following the theft.
When no concrete leads emerged from his personal efforts, Meena finally approached the police. He lodged a formal complaint on the night of January 16.
This delay of eight days between the crime and the official report complicates the investigation. Police are now examining all available evidence from the scene.
Police investigation underway
Bhopal police have registered a case based on Meena's complaint. They are reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity of Vidisha Road.
Investigators are also questioning potential witnesses in the Chhola area. The description of the bike-borne miscreants remains vague at this stage.
Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant while using expensive mobile devices in public spaces. They recommend immediate reporting of such incidents to improve investigation outcomes.
This snatching incident highlights growing concerns about street crime in urban areas. Authorities continue their search for the unidentified thieves.
