A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) functionary was allegedly beaten to death in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, following a dispute over irrigation of a field. The incident occurred on Saturday evening between 6 pm and 6:30 pm in a village on the outskirts of the city.
Details of the Incident
According to police, the victim was identified as Vinod Kumar, a local BJP worker. The argument broke out between Kumar and a man named Imtiaz, also a resident of the same village, over irrigating a field. The dispute escalated, leading to a physical assault on Kumar. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Arrests and Protests
Following the incident, local residents and BJP supporters staged a violent protest, demanding immediate action against the accused. Police intervened to control the situation and arrested four individuals in connection with the murder. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Police Investigation
Senior police officials visited the spot and assured strict action against the perpetrators. The body has been sent for post-mortem, and further investigations are underway. Police are also probing whether the dispute had any prior history or involvement of other individuals.
