Thrissur: BJP Thrissur South District president A R Sreekumar has been booked on charges of attempted culpable homicide after his wife filed a complaint alleging that he brutally assaulted her. As per the FIR prepared based on the complaint by Priyanka, 39, Sreekumar had assaulted her on Tuesday evening after she returned home.
Allegations of Assault
According to Priyanka, her husband assaulted her alleging that she was home late. She said she had then sought treatment at the Kodungallur taluk hospital and alleged that the doctor there did not give her proper attention. Priyanka then filed a complaint at Mathilakam police station.
Legal Action
The police registered the FIR under various sections of BNS including Section 110 which relates to attempted culpable homicide. Priyanka repeated these allegations before reporters on Friday as well.
Meanwhile, Sreekumar issued a statement decrying what he called “the tendency to exaggerate a minor family issue and to launch defamatory campaigns and character assassination for political gains”.
Court Order
Thrissur principal sessions judge P S Sasi Kumar directed the police on Friday not to arrest Sreekumar till June 19 when his anticipatory bail application is listed for further hearing in the court.
