BMC Supervisor Attacked in Bandra West Over Tin Shed

MUMBAI: The Bandra police have taken two individuals into custody for allegedly attacking a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) supervisor. The incident occurred when the supervisor went to investigate a complaint regarding an unauthorised tin shed purportedly erected on the terrace of a house in the Chibard Jetty area. The supervisor contacted the police helpline after the duo verbally abused and physically assaulted him.

Police registered a case against the two accused—Mohammed Nadeem Mohammed Ayaz Sayyed, 42, an electrician, and Mohammed Ayaz Abdul Rehman Sayyed, 68, a rickshaw driver—both residents of Chandrama House in Chimbai, Bandra West. They are charged with assaulting and threatening a BMC staff member while he was examining a suspected unauthorised structure on Friday.

Details from the FIR

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the complainant, Anil Rathod, 45, is a BMC employee posted at the H-West Ward. A junior engineer instructed him to look into a complaint about an allegedly unauthorised shed on the terrace of a building at Chimbai in Bandra West.

Rathod stated that he reached the location around 11:30 am on Friday and observed a shed constructed using iron angles and cement sheets on the terrace of Chandrama House. While he was photographing the structure as part of his official duties, two men approached him and claimed ownership of the premises. The civic employee informed them that a complaint had been received about the alleged unauthorised construction and requested them to submit the necessary documents at the civic office.

Assault and Threats

The two men reportedly engaged in an argument, hurled abuses at Rathod, grabbed him by the neck, struck him on the face, and warned him of dire consequences. Following the assault, Rathod contacted the police control room. The accused were subsequently taken to the police station and booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
