Panic spread through the Govindpura locality in Bhopal on Monday morning after the shocking discovery of a man's body hanging from a tree near the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT). The deceased was identified as a 28-year-old man.
Discovery and Immediate Police Response
Local residents were the first to spot the grim scene. The body was found suspended with the help of a gamchha, a traditional cotton towel. Authorities were immediately alerted, prompting a swift response from the police.
A police team rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. Following standard procedure, they called in a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to conduct a thorough inspection of the site. After the initial examination, the body was sent to a mortuary for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Identifying the Deceased and Family's Statement
During their search of the vicinity, police personnel recovered an Aadhaar card and a personal diary from the deceased. Using a contact number found within the diary, investigators were able to reach the young man's father.
The father, Babban Ghotre, revealed that his son was named Gajanan Ghotre, aged 28, and was originally a resident of Aurangabad. He stated that Gajanan had been living with him until recently, when he adopted an ascetic lifestyle. The young man had begun living as a bairagi (a renunciant) some time ago. Police have officially informed the family, who are now travelling from Aurangabad to Bhopal. Their statements will be recorded on Tuesday.
Preliminary Findings and Ongoing Probe
Based on the initial investigation and the evidence collected at the scene, police are treating the case as a suspected suicide. No suicide note was recovered from the spot, which is a key detail in the ongoing inquiry. The FSL report and the post-mortem findings are awaited to corroborate the preliminary assessment.
