Bokaro court gives life term to man for girlfriend murder

A local court in Bokaro on Thursday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend and the subsequent disposal of her body in a well in 2024. Additional Sessions Judge-IV cum Special Judge for Women-related Offences, Garima Mishra, found the accused, Uphan Manjhi, guilty and imposed a life sentence along with a fine of Rs 20,000.

Case Background

According to Special Public Prosecutor Rakesh Kumar Rai, the victim's father filed a First Information Report (FIR) on October 4, 2024, after his daughter went missing. The accused, a resident of the Pindrajora police station area, had allegedly lured the woman into a romantic relationship. Trouble began when her family arranged her marriage to another man. In an attempt to sabotage the wedding, Manjhi disclosed their relationship to the victim's fiancé. However, when the fiancé did not call off the marriage, the accused called the woman for a meeting and killed her following an argument.

Recovery of Body

The victim's body was later recovered from a well in a village. Rai stated that after examining witness statements and evidence presented in court, the judge found the accused guilty and awarded him life imprisonment. The fine imposed will be paid to the victim's family as compensation.
