A bomb alert on the Rapti Sagar Express (12512) prompted an extensive security operation at Aishbagh railway station in Lucknow on Tuesday morning, resulting in a delay of more than an hour before the train resumed its journey.
Passenger Alert Triggers Security Response
According to railway police officials, the alert was raised by a passenger travelling in the S2 coach, who was en route from Warangal to Gorakhpur. The passenger informed the Railway Protection Force control room that he had overheard some fellow travellers discussing the presence of a bomb on the train while it was passing through Unnao district.
Immediate Mobilization of Security Teams
Acting on the information, teams from the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), bomb disposal squad, and dog squad were immediately mobilised. The train was thoroughly searched after arriving at Aishbagh station at 10 am.
Intensive Inspection Yields No Suspicious Material
Following an intensive inspection of all coaches and luggage compartments, security personnel found no suspicious objects or explosive materials on board. Authorities subsequently declared the train safe for onward travel.
Investigation and Train Delay
During questioning, the informant told police that some passengers had got off the train near Unnao after mentioning a bomb threat, prompting him to alert authorities as a precautionary measure. The GRP's preliminary inquiry found no suspicious role on the part of the passenger who reported the matter.
The security checks affected the train's schedule. The Rapti Sagar Express departed Aishbagh station at 11:30 am, more than an hour behind its scheduled departure.
