Bomb Disposal Squads Conduct High-Alert Searches at Uttar Pradesh Courts

In a major security operation, bomb disposal and dog squads carried out thorough searches at district court compounds in Varanasi and Azamgarh on Monday. The heightened security measures came in response to threatening emails received by judicial authorities, prompting immediate police action and the registration of multiple First Information Reports (FIRs).

Varanasi Court Evacuation Precedes Intensive Security Sweep

The security operation in Varanasi followed the February 13 evacuation of the district court after a threatening email reached the district judge's office. Police Commissioner Mohit Agrawal confirmed that an FIR has been lodged with Cantt police station regarding the incident.

"As soon as the district court opened, our bomb disposal and dog squads entered the campus and conducted a comprehensive search of the entire compound," explained police officials. The cybercrime cell has been activated to investigate the source of the threat, while the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has also been deployed as part of the security response.

Azamgarh Court Receives Similar Threat, Prompting Mega Search Drive

Simultaneously in Azamgarh, police launched what they described as a "mega search drive" at the district court premises. Azamgarh Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar stated that this security operation was initiated after a threatening email was received on the district judge's official email account.

"While we maintain regular security arrangements and conduct random checking drives as per standard operating procedures for court security, Monday's operation was specifically conducted in response to the threat mail," SP Kumar emphasized. Although nothing suspicious was discovered during the search, authorities have registered an FIR in connection with the threatening communication.

Disturbing Content of Threatening Communications Revealed

The threatening email sent to Varanasi authorities originated from the address sunniya_dasan@outlook.com and contained alarming allegations. The communication specifically mentioned several Supreme Court advocates by name, accusing them of advising the DMK party in Tamil Nadu to suppress media freedom in 2021.

Even more disturbing were additional claims in the email alleging:

  • Journalists were being lured under false pretenses
  • Minor girl inmates of orphanages were being sexually exploited
  • The sender provided names of numerous alleged victims

Police authorities have declined to comment on the specific veracity of these allegations while the investigation remains ongoing, but have confirmed that all aspects of the threatening communication are being thoroughly examined by multiple law enforcement agencies.

Multi-Agency Investigation Underway

The coordinated security response has involved multiple specialized units:

  1. Local police forces in both districts maintaining heightened security
  2. Cybercrime cells tracing digital footprints of the threatening emails
  3. Anti-Terrorism Squad monitoring potential broader security implications
  4. Forensic teams examining any physical evidence

Court operations have resumed in both locations with enhanced security protocols, though authorities remain on high alert as investigations continue into the source and credibility of the threatening communications that prompted this unprecedented security response across two major Uttar Pradesh judicial districts.
