Security was tightened at the Udupi district court complex on Monday after a bomb threat email was received. Police conducted thorough inspections across the District and Sessions Court, various subordinate courts, and the court premises, but no suspicious items were found.
Details of the Threat
The email, sent to the court's official address, claimed that explosives had been planted in the building. Court officials immediately alerted the police, who responded with bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs. The court complex was temporarily evacuated as a precautionary measure.
According to a police officer, the email appeared to be a hoax, but authorities took it seriously given the sensitivity of the location. "We conducted a thorough search of all areas, including courtrooms, offices, and parking lots. Nothing suspicious was found," the officer said.
Impact on Court Proceedings
Court proceedings were briefly disrupted during the search. However, normal operations resumed after the police declared the premises safe. The incident has raised concerns about security protocols at judicial institutions in the region.
This is not the first time a court in Karnataka has received a bomb threat. Similar incidents have occurred in other districts, prompting calls for enhanced security measures. Police are investigating the source of the email and have registered a case.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The investigation is ongoing.
