Bomb Threat Hoaxes at Hyderabad's JNTU and AIR Station Trigger Major Security Response
Hyderabad was gripped by security concerns on Tuesday morning when two prominent institutions—Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTU-H) and the city's All India Radio (AIR) station—received bomb threats via email around 10:30 am. The alarming messages triggered immediate panic and prompted extensive emergency protocols, though authorities later confirmed both threats were hoaxes.
Swift Action at JNTU Hyderabad Campus
Upon receiving the threatening email, JNTU officials wasted no time in alerting law enforcement authorities. Personnel from the local police station, along with specialized bomb disposal squads, rushed to the campus to conduct a comprehensive security operation.
Following strict standard operating procedures, teams carried out thorough frisking, search, and sanitization operations across multiple facilities including administrative offices, student hostels, and other key buildings. The JN Auditorium was specifically sanitized and temporarily used to accommodate students and staff during the security sweep.
After completing their meticulous examination, police confirmed that no suspicious objects or explosive devices were found on the premises. The Deputy Commissioner of Police assured that investigators would work diligently to identify those responsible for the hoax and ensure appropriate legal action.
Parallel Panic at All India Radio Station
In a disturbingly similar incident occurring around the same time, panic spread at the Hyderabad All India Radio station after staff received a threatening email claiming that 13 chemical bombs had been planted on the premises.
Police teams responded immediately, deploying bomb disposal units and specialized dog squads to conduct exhaustive searches throughout the broadcasting facility. According to the Saifabad police station, the thorough investigation revealed no explosives or dangerous materials at the AIR station.
Investigating Potential Connections Between Threats
With both threatening emails arriving around the same time on Tuesday morning, Hyderabad police are now actively investigating whether there are any connections between the two incidents. Investigators are examining:
- The timing and content of both emails
- Potential similarities in the communication methods
- Whether the threats originated from the same source
- Possible motives behind the coordinated hoaxes
The security operations at both locations caused significant disruption but ultimately confirmed the safety of students, staff, and broadcast personnel. Authorities have emphasized that such hoax threats waste valuable emergency resources and create unnecessary public anxiety, while assuring that those responsible will face serious consequences under the law.
