Bomb Threats Spark Panic and Evacuations at Civil Courts in Purnia and Puxar
Panic gripped civil courts in Purnia and Puxar on Friday following bomb threats received through email, leading to immediate evacuations, suspension of judicial proceedings, and deployment of security forces. The incidents prompted swift responses from local authorities to ensure public safety.
Purnia Court Incident: Initial Searches Yield No Explosives
In Purnia, the sadar SDPO-I, Jyoti Shankar, confirmed that information about the bomb threat was received, triggering an emergency response. Initial searches conducted on the court premises did not uncover any suspicious items or explosives, according to Shankar. However, security measures have been significantly tightened in the aftermath.
"Those entering or leaving the campus are being thoroughly checked, and verification of identity cards has been enforced as a precaution," Shankar stated. He added that the cybercell has launched an investigation to trace the origin of the threatening email, with police vowing to initiate strict legal action against the perpetrators once identified.
Puxar Civil Court: Judicial Proceedings Suspended Temporarily
Similarly, at the Puxar civil court, the bomb threat led to the temporary suspension of all judicial activities, with everyone ordered to evacuate the campus immediately. Buxar SDPO Gaurav Kumar Pandey, along with police forces, arrived promptly to conduct a thorough search operation.
Later, SP Shubham Arya also visited the site to assess the situation. Pandey explained, "The threat was received via email, and as a precautionary step, the court premise has been evacuated. A search operation is being conducted with the assistance of dog squads and technical teams, but so far, no suspicious objects have been found."
Community Response and Calls for Enhanced Security
The District Bar Association general secretary, Bindeshwari Prasad Pandey, emphasized the association's cooperation with security agencies during the crisis. He highlighted the urgent need for further strengthening security arrangements at the civil court to prevent such incidents in the future.
Advocate Sarfaraz Saifi echoed these concerns, urging the administration to implement stricter security measures. He stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of advocates, staff, and litigants who frequent the court premises daily.
As investigations continue, authorities remain vigilant, with ongoing efforts to trace the source of the threats and bolster security protocols across judicial facilities in the region.
