Bomb Threats Trigger Mass Evacuations at Rajasthan Assembly and Courts
Multiple bomb threats sent via email on Monday forced the evacuation of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, the Rajasthan High Court's Jaipur bench, and several district courts in the state capital. Security agencies conducted extensive searches for hours but found no suspicious items, raising serious concerns about law and order.
Assembly Receives Specific Threat
The Assembly secretariat received a threatening email around 11:10 AM, warning that the building would be destroyed within three hours using RDX and cyanide-based explosives. This prompted immediate evacuation of the premises and a comprehensive security sweep.
"We informed the Director General of Police and the police commissioner about the threat. They thoroughly checked the premises. Similar threats were earlier received at the high court. The police must intensify efforts to trace the senders of these emails. This must be firmly controlled," Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devani told reporters.
Bomb disposal squads, dog squads, and special security teams scoured the Assembly complex and surrounding areas for nearly two-and-a-half hours before normal activities could resume.
Courts Targeted Across Rajasthan
Similar threatening emails were sent to official email addresses at the Rajasthan High Court's Jaipur bench and the Jaipur sessions court, warning of imminent explosions. In Bikaner, a court complex was evacuated late Sunday night following a comparable threat email. Police searches there also yielded no incriminating evidence.
Political Leaders Express Alarm
The repeated threats have drawn sharp criticism from political leaders across party lines, questioning the state government's effectiveness in maintaining security.
Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot described the situation as "extremely serious" and criticized the lack of decisive action. "Despite repeated threats to courts and government buildings, no concrete action has been taken. Even the assembly is now being threatened. What are the government and police doing?" he said, also highlighting rising crimes against women as "highly unfortunate."
Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully echoed these concerns, calling the situation alarming. "What kind of law and order is this? Every time such a threat emerges, panic spreads, work gets disrupted, yet the perpetrators remain at large," he stated, urging both the Chief Minister and the Union Home Minister to implement stricter measures.
Security Response and Ongoing Concerns
The coordinated security response involved:
- Immediate evacuation of all threatened premises
- Deployment of bomb disposal and dog squads
- Comprehensive searches lasting several hours
- Heightened security vigilance across key institutions
While no explosives were discovered, the incidents have exposed vulnerabilities in digital security and threat response protocols. The recurring nature of these threats—with similar emails targeting judicial institutions previously—suggests a pattern that authorities have yet to effectively address.
The events have disrupted legislative and judicial functions, causing significant inconvenience and highlighting the need for enhanced cybersecurity measures and more robust threat assessment mechanisms to prevent such panic-inducing situations in the future.
