Bomb Threats Disrupt Civil Courts in Bihar, Prompting Security Overhaul

Civil courts in Patna, Barh, and Begusarai were thrown into chaos on Monday morning after receiving bomb threats via email, forcing authorities to implement stringent security protocols across the premises.

Seventh Threat Incident in Patna Since January 2026

Police officials confirmed that the threat to the Patna civil court marks the seventh such occurrence since January 2026, indicating a troubling pattern of harassment. In response, security personnel at the main gate conducted thorough frisking of all individuals entering the complex. Those wearing masks or helmets were required to remove them before access was granted, ensuring no potential risks were overlooked.

Email Warns of RDX Explosion at 1 PM

According to officials from the Pirbahore police station, the registrar received an email early in the morning claiming that RDX explosives had been planted on the court premises, with a detonation scheduled for 1 PM. Town DSP-I Rajesh Raman stated that extensive searches were conducted, but no suspicious objects or explosives were discovered. "Security personnel were instructed to carry out detailed checks on everyone entering the premises. The court remained fully operational and there was no disruption in proceedings," he emphasized.

Harassment Attempts to Disrupt Court Functioning

Raman added that these repeated threats appear to be deliberate attempts to harass authorities and disrupt court operations. "Regular checking and frisking are carried out on the court premises every day between 7 AM and 9 AM following a series of bomb threats in February. The courts were not shut down after the threats, which helped deter attempts to hamper work. A complete search of the campus was conducted again today and nothing suspicious was found," he explained.

Investigation Stalled Despite Pursuing Leads

The DSP revealed that no arrests have been made in connection with any of the incidents so far. "The investigating team travelled to Rajasthan and Chennai in pursuit of leads, but no significant breakthrough has been achieved yet. The source of the emails remains untraced. At the police station level, resources are limited, so cyber experts are leading the probe and acting on available clues," he noted. After receiving the email, Pirbahore police registered a case and sought assistance from the cyber cell to trace its origin.

History of Threats and Precautionary Measures

Police records show that the Patna civil court had previously received similar threats on January 8 and 28, as well as on February 9, 11, 12, and 13. In Begusarai, similar precautionary measures were enacted after its civil court also received a bomb threat email. However, searches there likewise yielded no explosives, reinforcing the pattern of false alarms aimed at causing disruption.

This series of incidents underscores ongoing security challenges in Bihar's judicial infrastructure, with authorities remaining vigilant to prevent any actual harm while continuing investigations into the source of these threatening communications.
