Child Critically Injured in Wedding Celebration Gone Wrong
A joyous wedding celebration in Noida turned into a nightmare on Sunday night when a 12-year-old boy was critically injured by a stray bullet from celebratory gunfire. The incident occurred in the Jarcha area's Nangla Chamru village as a wedding procession, or baarat, was in full swing.
Police identified the victim as Krish, a Class 7 student at a local primary school. He had stepped out to watch the festivities when tragedy struck.
Panic at the Wedding Procession
The baarat had arrived from Khairpur village in Greater Noida for the wedding of two daughters of a local resident, Satish. Around 9:30 PM, as the procession moved forward with music and dancing, two young men joined in brandishing a pistol.
"Moments later, they began firing shots in the air. During one of these shots, a stray bullet struck Krish, a resident of the same village, on the head," a senior police officer told TOI. The boy collapsed and started bleeding profusely, triggering panic among the guests who began running for cover.
Police Action and Arrests
Police rushed to the spot and immediately took Krish to a hospital in Dadri for initial treatment. As his condition deteriorated, he was referred to a higher medical facility in Greater Noida, where he remains in critical condition.
Based on a complaint, an FIR was registered under Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Arms Act. The police swiftly arrested two property dealers: Abhishek and Ishu Kasana.
From the accused, police seized:
- A licensed pistol, one used cartridge, and two live rounds from Abhishek.
- An illegal country-made pistol with a .315 bore cartridge stuck in its barrel from Ishu.
Investigations revealed that the licensed pistol was brought to the wedding by Nikky, son of Amar Singh, whose father legally owns the weapon. Nikky handed the pistol to Abhishek, who then fired the shots. Police are now making efforts to arrest Nikky.
The officer added that Abhishek has a criminal history, with multiple cases already registered against him at the Tila Mod police station in Ghaziabad.
A Grim Reminder of a Dangerous Practice
This shocking incident in Noida highlights the deadly consequences of the illegal and reckless practice of celebratory firing at weddings and other events. It underscores the urgent need for strict enforcement of arms laws and greater public awareness about the dangers of such actions, which too often turn celebrations into tragedies for innocent bystanders.
